The Maryland Paper Co.'s expansion plans call for a 30,266-square-foot building for manufacturing fiberglass sheets and for storage.
The Washington County Planning Commission voted 3-0 Monday night to grant county staff the authority to approve the site plan once more agency approvals are obtained.
The project came before the board without full agency approval because it's considered a fast-track project, said Tim Lung, director of the county's Department of Plan Review & Permitting.
Maryland Paper is one of the nation's leading manufacturers of dry felt paper for construction and industrial uses.
The project, referred to as Maryland Fiberglass, includes a new building at 10035 Governor Lane Blvd., southeast of Williamsport. The building would be on the east side of Governor Lane Blvd. toward Kendle Road, according to site plan documents.
Business Operations Manager David Chakola told Herald-Mail Media in June that a planned expansion was to be completed by late next spring.
The company is expecting to hire about 50 more full-time employees, he said at the time.
Cody Shaw, the county's plan review chief, said the expansion in the site plan was expected to call for 45 employees, 15 per shift.
Commission member Robert "B.J." Goetz Jr. abstained from the vote.
