Corry man jailed on drug charges for alleged incidents in Crawford, Erie counties

WOODCOCK TOWNSHIP — A traffic violation landed a Corry man behind bars with a six-figure bail holding him there on drug-related charges for an incident Wednesday in Crawford County and an incident in Erie County more than one year ago.

State police from the Meadville barracks stopped Shane Russell Saunders, 34, for a summary traffic violation at 12:46 a.m. Wednesday on routes 6/19 in Woodcock Township, police report.

A search of Saunder's vehicle resulted in the discovery of marijuana, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and the ingredients used in the production of methamphetamine, police report. Several inactive one-pot meth labs were also seized and destroyed by the State Police Clandestine Laboratory Response Team during the search, according to the police report.

Saunders was arraigned Wednesday before Magisterial District Judge Lincoln Zilhaver on charges of a felony count of possessing phenylpropanolamine with intent to manufacture, two felony counts of manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver, a second-degree felony count of operating a methamphetamine lab, a third-degree felony count of deposits, stores and/or disposes of chemical waste, a third-degree felony count of risking a catastrophe, a misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor count of possession and/or use of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence, a second-degree misdemeanor count of recklessly endangering another person, a third-degree misdemeanor count of providing false identification to a law enforcement officer and five summary traffic violations.

Saunders was also arraigned Wednesday before Magisterial District Judge Brenda A. Nichols of Erie County on charges of conspiracy to possess red phosphorous with intent to manufacture controlled substances, possession of red phosphorous with intent to manufacture, manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver, causing a catastrophe, endangering the welfare of children when the parent or guardian commits the offense, possession of a controlled substance and possession and/or use of drug paraphernalia.

State police at the Corry barracks filed charges for an incident in Corry on Sept. 29, 2016. Saunders was wanted on the prior charges in Erie County when he was pulled over in Crawford County on Wednesday.

Saunders was committed to the Crawford County jail in lieu of $100,000 monetary bond. Preliminary hearings are scheduled for Oct. 31 in Erie County and Nov. 1 in Crawford County.
