PARIS TN: Buchanan man slams patrol car during escape from officers

A Buchanan man managed to escape from a pair of Henry County Sheriff’s Department officers Friday afternoon by driving his vehicle into a patrol car, then driving away.

Eddie Ray Bryant, 25, of 369 Sloan Road will likely be charged with aggravated assault and evading arrest after officers attempted to apprehend him.

Cpl. Brian Davis first went to 44 Beach Lane at 3:32 p.m. Friday to serve court papers to Bryant, who he found sitting inside a car in the driveway. As Davis approached, Bryant rolled up the windows and locked the doors.

About that time, Lt. Lance Perry pulled into the driveway. Bryant then started his vehicle and drove it into Perry’s patrol car.  Perry pursued Bryant but lost the vehicle.

The vehicle was later found at 139 Sloan Road, but Bryant had left it.

Sheriff’s officers then returned to 44 Beach Lane, where Lt. Clyde Sulcer was allowed to search the residence to see if Bryant had returned there. While inside the home, Sulcer found a Kel-Tech .38-caliber pistol with 10 rounds of ammunition.

Donald Blaine Ashby, 36, of 219 Oliver St., who was inside the home and told officers the gun was his, was charged with unlawful carrying or possession of a weapon and with violation of probation. Ashby is to appear in Henry County General Sessions Court Tuesday. His bond was set at $10,000.
