Manufacture Royale ADN Street Art
In just seven short years, Manufacture Royale has had the good fortune to be able to introduce nine purpose-made movements to power its timepieces, the latest of which comes within a timepiece called ADN – the French word for “DNA” – whose design was directly inspired by the marque’s first two models, Androgyne and Opera. The 67-part 46 mm case available in stainless steel, DLC-coated stainless steel and even forged carbon has well rounded curves resembling something from the steampunk era, making it a highly attractive timepiece with clever mechanical grit.

Manufacture Royale ADN
Caliber MR09 continues Manufacture Royale’s recent quest for transparency with a barely-there skeletonized movement that includes a flying tourbillon as well as jump hours and a second time zone capable of displaying every time zone, even those 30 or 15 minutes off the GMT reference. Every function is set and adjusted by just one crown, so no correctors or push pieces are needed, keeping the design pure. And particularly attractive is the limited “Street Art” edition with its funky water-printed components inspired by street art. See much more about the new ADN line, which is quite customizable and whose pricing starts at about $70,000, in Manufacture Royale’s ADN And The Realizations Of A Monoglot.

Manufacture Royale ADN Street Art's colorful caliber
Named for the workshops of historian, writer, and philosopher Voltaire, a major figure of the enlightenment movement, the name of Switzerland’s Manufacture Royale pays tribute to the revolutionary mind of this historic French figure who was also apparently enamored of timepieces. Founded in 2010, Manufacture Royale was acquired by GTN Luxury Holding SA in late 2013 and is now managed by three of the experienced family members who own the holding.
Elizabeth Doerr is the editor-in-chief of Quill & Pad, an online publication that keeps a watch on time.
