The South America trade block Mercosur has published Resolution No. 44/18 listing the requirements for the manufacturing and distribution of personal care products, cosmetics and perfumes prior to their placement on the market.
The requirements include reporting to health authorities:
- function of the ingredients;
- physicochemical and microbiologic specifications of the raw materials and finished products;
- the manufacturing process;
- specifications of the packaging materials;
- stability data;
- the lot code system;
- label requirements; and
- the use of the product when it’s not implicit in its name.
The Mercosur Resolution, dated 8 November 2018, will be incorporated into the legal systems of Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay by May 2019 and revokes Mercosur Resolution No. 26/04.
