Study feasibility for manufacture of Train 18 type coaches with berths: Rajesh Agrawal - Mumbai Mirror

Member of Rolling Stock of the Railway Board Rajesh Agrawal asked the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) Chennai to study the feasibility for the manufacture of Train 18 type coaches with berths for overnight travel, in the coming production year (2019-20).

Agrawal visited the ICF on January 31 and interacted with the GM (in-charge) AK Singh, principal chief mechanical engineer Shubhranshu and other heads of departments. He went around the production facilities at both the Shell and Furnishing Divisions of the Factory, after viewing the Heritage Gallery and the Family Tree in the foyer area of the Shell Administrative Office. During the inspection, he praised the design of the second AC conditioned local, in which production is underway.

Later, while addressing a meeting, the Board member appreciated the innovations that ICF has brought in the railway's passenger coaches and expressed his happiness about the fact that the ICF would be manufacturing more than 3,200 coaches this production year (2018-19) as compared to 2,503 coaches last year. He also expressed his happiness over Train 18 coaches manufactured by them in a record time and cost.

He also lauded the ICF on manpower planning and how recruitment of manpower per coach has gotten more efficient, over the years. He also wanted them to focus more on the export of coaches to other countries as India is improving its industrial relationships with all countries and Indian technology is welcomed everywhere. Agrawal also advised the ICF to focus more on the production of rakes such as Train 18 train sets, which will cater to mass transit, than individual, special types of coaches. He assured that the Railway Board would render all the assistance required to the Factory to meet its goals and bring out more types of coaches.
