Volkswagen to manufacture minibuses in Turkey's Ford plants - Ahval

German automotive giant Volkswagen is close to signing off on al deal to manufacture minibuses in the factories of Ford Otosan, the Turkish venture of the U.S.’ second largest car manufacturer, Dünya newspaper reported.

The german company is close to sealing the deal with Ford Otosan to produce the vehicles in Ford plants manufacturing Ford Transit models, the newspaper quoted Alper Kanca, the chairman of the Association of Automotive Parts and Components Manufacturers (TAYSAD) as saying.

"Volkswagen minibuses are going to produced in factories that produce Ford Transit models in Turkey. This is going to change a lot of things, it’s going to change the perception of many Germans. The government has to provide some special incentives as well. And the public needs to be more sensitive on this matter. We need to bring a German automotive factory to Turkey,’’ Kanca said, stressing that Turkey is an ideal investment location and decisions regarding investments should not be political.

The news arrives following a confirmation from Ford Otosan General Manager Haydar Yenigün that the two companies have been negotiating for some time.

Europe's largest commercial vehicle production base, Ford Turkey - which was Turkey’s top exporter in 2017 with sales of $4.8 billion - produced 440,000 vehicles and 75,000 engines.
