Railways to manufacture over 1,000 new Deen Dayalu coaches for unreserved passengers in two years - Times Now

New Delhi: Unreserved railway passengers will be relieved to know that Indian Railways is planning to manufacture more than 1,000 revamped LHB Deen Dayalu coaches. The new swanky coaches will enhance the comfort of unreserved passengers. It may be noted that Deen Dayalu coaches were launched in 2016 keeping in mind the common man travelling in general class.

A recent Financial Express report stated the Piyush Goyal-led Railway Ministry is looking to manufacture over 1,000 Deen Dayalu coaches within next two years. The report cited a senior ministry official saying that about 540 such coaches will be manufactured every year in the next two years. Most of the coaches will be manufactured by ICF, Chennai who also manufactured India's first self-propelled train The Vande Bharat Express.

According to the national daily report, these new coaches will have all the modern amenities such as aqua guard water filtration, padded seats, cushioned luggage racks, coat racks, anti-graffiti vinyl wrapping, modern bio-toilets, more mobile charging ports, water-level indicators and dustbins etc. These coaches will offer maximum comfort to the passengers. 

The report further mentioned that Railways is planning to roll out 100 coaches of Antyodaya Express trains soon. These trains are superfast trains for unreserved passengers only. They offer long-distance travel without reservation. The new Antyodaya coaches will reportedly have the same features as the new Deen Dayalu coaches. 

It may be noted that Piyush Goyal did not announce any new train in the Interim Budget. However, he announced a capital expenditure allocation of Rs 1.58 lakh crore for the Railways. It may be noted that this is the highest ever for the national transporter.
