What’s left for Oregon State Beavers football in 2020 recruiting cycle? - OregonLive

During the December early signing period, the Oregon State Beavers football program inked its best recruiting class since 2013, finishing ninth in the Pac-12 Conference and 48th nationally.

But Jonathan Smith and his coaching staff may not be done yet, as there are still two available scholarships with which to work.

So, what will they do with those spots?

Although it remains fluid, as programs continue to shuffle their big boards based on who didn’t sign binding national letters of intent, it’s clear Oregon State would like to add another offensive lineman.

And the primary target appears to be recent USC Trojans decommit and 247Sports three-star offensive lineman Kyle Juergens.

The 6-foot-4 1/2, 241-pound lineman, out of St. Margaret’s Episcopal School (San Juan Capistrano, California), is scheduled to take an official visit to Corvallis in January.

Although Juergens needs to add significant weight to his frame, he’s an intriguing blend of size and athleticism, generating scholarship offers from Arizona State, BYU, USC and others.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the California product was excited about the return of head coach Clay Helton, but decommitted just days later on December 8 - possibly at the behest of the Trojans.

“While Juergens’ de-commitment seems surprising based on his comments, there were also signs there could be a change in his status," reporter Shotgun Spratling wrote. USC’s coaching staff had not visited with Juergens since the all-important contact period began on Dec. 1. During the 14-day contact period, coaches are permitted to make in-person, off-campus contact, often stopping by potential prospects’ schools and homes to have sit-down conversations with a player and his family.”

Oregon State’s other remaining scholarship spot isn’t as clear.

Last year, the Beavers kept a space available and were able to utilize it mid-season in the acquisition of Auburn freshman defensive lineman Charles Moore, who was the nation’s No. 6 defensive end in the class of 2019 and would rank as the No. 3 commit in program history had he signed out of high school.

A similar move could be in store for 2020, or Smith and his staff could identify a high school or junior college player they like over the next month and pursue him.

So, while the Beavers already have their best class in six years, it seems more help could soon be on the way.
