Cuba strengthens manufacture of products with recycling materials - Prensa Latina

21 de febrero de 2020, 10:52Havana, Feb 21 (Prensa Latina) Cuba strengthens on Friday the manufacture of new products with recycling materials, among them plastic hoses, pipes for electric wirings and construction blocks as of glass and paper.

This is part of the actions the country has been carrying out to increase the added value of wastes and save the nation's resources, as reported in the analysis of the Ministry of Industries (MINDUS)'s activity in 2019.

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero, Industries Minister Eloy Alvarez, and other officials, attended the meeting.

According to the report, the waste recycling index experienced a 3% growth in 2019, compared to 2018.

Among the main barriers hindering the policy in this area are: poor culture of waste recycling in society, low technical availability of specialized media, no specific business with foreign capital and low reuse of plastic and glass containers.

The recycling company and MINDUS, both leading this task in the country, must work in two directions: internally and advise other agencies and institutions to increase results in recycling.
