Florida State football recruiting: Recapping the final visit weekend of the 2020 cycle - Tallahassee Democrat

The final weekend of visits for the 2020 recruiting cycle is coming to a close.

Florida State hosted three official visitors for the weekend. Three-star defensive end TJ Davis, three-star linebacker DJ Lundy, and three-star safety Sidney Williams made their way to Tallahassee.

Williams official visit lasted for a day before he left for an official visit at Indiana. He did not pick up an offer from FSU during his visit, which takes the Seminoles out of the running for him.

Lundy's visit started a day late and is expected to end late Sunday night. The recruiting dead period begins at midnight Monday, which prevents in-person contact between recruits and coaches.

Davis was the only official visitor to leave Sunday. He thoroughly enjoyed his visit to Tallahassee.

"It went well,” Davis said.

"The people and the history of Florida State. Can’t find no better place like it."

The 6-foot-3, 249-pound defensive end from Metter, Ga. is down to Georgia Tech and FSU after his official visit. He said that it was 50-50 between the Seminoles and Yellow Jackets.

Davis came away very impressed with FSU coach Mike Norvell, who made it clear that he wants Davis in the 2020 class.

"His message was, when he first watched my film, he was like he's got to come get me,” Davis said.

"He really loves me. He’s going to treat me like family. His goal for me is after college he wants to have a great relationship with me and that’s how he knows if he’s done his job."

Davis will make his decision Tuesday and announce which program he will be signing with at his signing day ceremony at 2 p.m. Wednesday. FSU seems to be in very good position for him.

FSU hosts Deerfield Beach prospects following tragedy

A large number of Deerfield Beach High prospects made their way to FSU for a day visit. The visit was part of multi-day trip that saw the group make their way to Auburn, Florida, UCF, and Valdosta State in addition to FSU.

The group has dealt with multiple tragedies over the last month with the death of former player Bryce Gowdy on Dec. 30 and the death of 15-year-old Terrance Jackson Saturday.

Jackson was supposed to be on the recruiting trip with the group that arrived at FSU, according to reports, but stayed behind for his grandfather's funeral. He was killed while attending the funeral.

Norvell took the time to shake hands and introduce himself to every prospect and coach that came on the visit.

Four-star 2021 cornerback Phillip O'Brien Jr. was one of those players. He was fresh off his commitment to Auburn Saturday, but his visit to FSU made a big impact.

The Seminoles are very much in his recruitment despite the commitment. O'Brien Jr. has deep ties to the FSU program with former FSU players Zach and Henri Crockett being his uncles.

"I treat this like a second home," O’Brien Jr. said.

“I can always come up here... Florida State is definitely top, big, big in my recruitment."

Norvell made it clear to O'Brien Jr. that he was a priority for him.

Norvell met him in the parking lot after meeting the other players and then walked him into the Moore Athletic Center. O'Brien Jr. spent a lot of time with the new FSU head coach during the visit as well.

"I would definitely say I loved getting straight out of the van and Coach Norvell is just excited, jumping up,” O’Brien Jr. said. "That is love... That surprised me a lot."

One of the other top prospects in the group that arrived with O'Brien was 2022 running back Jaziun Patterson.

Patterson's recruitment is already in full swing with offers by Alabama, FSU, Florida, Texas A&M, and Auburn.

He has FSU high on his list after the visit.

"It's a running school," Patterson said.

"I'm a big fan of Dalvin Cook. I kind of want to follow in his shoes. I feel like I would be a good addition to this team."

The group left early in the afternoon and made their way to UCF for a final visit before they headed home.

Talented Georgia prospects make FSU visit

XFSU had three high profile prospects from the state of Georgia on campus.

Four-star 2021 cornerback Marquis Killebrew and four-star 2021 wide receiver Daejon Reynolds made their way to FSU from Snellville, Ga. The Grayson High standouts received a lot of attention from the FSU coaching staff during their visit.

Killebrew spent time getting to know defensive backs coach Marcus Woodson enjoyed the visit.

"It's definitely one of my top schools," Killebrew said.

"Just the energy that the new coaching staff is bringing. They want to bring it back to the way it used to be."

Reynolds also liked the new staff, and spent a lot of time with wide receivers coach Ron Dugans. He's taking a wait-and-see approach with FSU because there was a coaching change. But he likes what he sees so far.

Both players plan to return to FSU for a practice in the spring.

Florida 2021 four-star linebacker commit Chief Borders Jr. was the last prospect on an unofficial visit to leave campus.

It was his first visit to FSU and he came away very impressed.

"It was just beautiful," Borders Jr. said.

"My first time actually really experiencing the Florida State tradition and a culture that they have to offer was just immaculate. It was just a very tasteful environment and just a beautiful place to be. It's dope. It's a nice place."

Borders Jr. plans also plans to return to FSU to take in a spring practice.

2021 tight end impressed by FSU

FSU also had 2021 four-star tight end Michael Trigg on campus for a visit.

"I had a good time trying on the different uniforms," Trigg said.

"Coach Norvell brought out a pretty good vibe for me. It was pretty good."

Trigg picked up an offer from FSU recently and already has plans to return to Tallahassee for another visit during the spring.
