Pickerington, OH (April 23, 2020) – The American Motorcyclist Association has named Matthew Miles as its Director of Communications. Miles, most recently with American magazine publisher Bonnier Corp., begins his new job May 1 at the AMA campus in Pickerington, Ohio, which also houses the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum.

Miles will report to AMA Chief Operating Officer James Holter.
“Few journalists serving the motorcycling community command the respect and admiration that Matthew Miles has earned during his 30-year career,” Holter said. “The breadth of Matthew’s experience, combined with his considerable work ethic and deep knowledge of the sport, will inform, educate and entertain AMA members through all of our communication channels.”
As director of communications, Miles will be responsible for AMA editorial content, both digital and print, as well as media relations. He also will direct the communications department’s support of all areas of the organization, including government relations, membership and marketing, amateur and professional competition, recreational riding and the Hall of Fame.
Miles, 53, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from Indiana University in 1989. He has spent his entire professional career in the motorcycle industry.

“Motorcycling captured my heart the moment a childhood friend asked if I wanted to ride his Honda Trail 70, and my love affair with two wheels has endured more than four decades,” Miles said. “Twenty-nine of those years were spent as an editor for Cycle World magazine, evaluating new models, overseeing various departments and covering national and international competition.

“Perhaps my proudest participatory-journalism moment was AMA road racing champion Eric Bostrom’s front-row qualifying and seventh-place race-one finish in 2010 aboard our Team Cycle World Attack Performance Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000 at VIRginia International Raceway,” Miles said. “Eric’s performances that weekend proved beyond doubt that a private team, competing under the rules of that time, could run well into the top 10 at an AMA road race national.”
Starting May 1, Miles can be contacted at mmiles@ama-cycle.org or (614) 856-1900.
