Local Company Answers Governor’s Call To Manufacture Medical Equipment - ksltv.com

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Five local companies have shifted the focus of their business to manufacture hundreds of thousands of powered air purifying respirators after the governor’s office called upon businesses to manufacture them.

One of the companies the state was able to successfully order the personal protective equipment or PPEs from was Queen of Wraps, a sign shop located in South Salt Lake.

“I found this plan for face shields online,” owner Bryan Griffith said. “We thought we’ve got that equipment, we’ve got access to that material.”

The company got on the phone with the governors office and said within hours, they were able to secure a purchase order for 10,000 face shields.

Following CDC guidelines, employees got to work, cutting the face shields using a thin polyester plastic.

Griffith said creating this equipment was personal for him since his wife is a nurse.

“I have to keep that in mind when making the stuff that she literally could be wearing this at some point,” he said. “This has to work because people I love are going to be wearing this.”

He said he hopes these products will help prevent the spread of the virus and that he’s grateful producing them keeps his employees paid.

“When your options are shut the door or figuring out something else to do, then you’re welcome to anything that comes to you,” he said.
