Participatory Budgeting cycle 7 vote postponed due to COVID-19 - Vallejo Times-Herald

Vallejo’s Participatory Budgeting (PB) Cycle 7 vote for 2020 has been postponed due to the shelter-at-home health order issued in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A new voting time frame has yet to be determined, officials said in a news release.

“Although the PB Vote could be facilitated through our online platform, waiting until the shelter at home health order is lifted will ensure the equal opportunity for all eligible Vallejoans to participate in the process,” they added.

During the March 11 budget meeting, delegates voted on the final 12 proposals they would like to include in the PB ballot. Prior to the March 11 deliberation, the project proposals were reviewed by an ad hoc committee of the Steering Committee, relevant city departments, and implementing partners.

All proposals were reviewed by the assistant city manager and chief assistant city attorney. Proposals were reviewed for eligibility, per the PB Rulebook, and for legality, budgeting, feasibility, implementation, and policy concerns.

Some of the proposed projects include an inclusive park and playgrounds for children and families of varying abilities and disabilities, support services for Vallejo foster youth, feeding school age children who receive free or reduced cost meal over the weekend, reentry program for offenders, dental equipment to help homeless, and support for firefighting youth academy.
