A group of workers who selflessly lived in a factory for 28 days to make raw materials for masks and hospital gowns have finally left to go home.

The workers at Brasken America in Delaware County, Pennsylvania left the factory for the first time this week. According to WVPI, about 40 employees unanimously decided to live at their job and work 12-hour shifts every day to help battle the Covid-19 outbreak. They had been working to produce polypropylene, a material used to make N95 masks, sanitary napkins and hospital gowns among other critical items.

Their shift supervisor said there was a glow in the workers eyes as they left the factory for the first time in four weeks.

‘We’re truly honored to be able to give back and support people we will never meet in some way,’ operations shift supervisor Joe Boyce said.

‘We’ve almost been the lucky ones, I’ll say for the last 28 days because I haven’t had to stand six feet from somebody. I haven’t had to put a mask on.’

Boyce went on to say that he and his workers were just doing their part to help their country, thanking health care workers battling the virus on the front lines.

‘All the first responders, all the people on the frontlines, we thank you. That’s what makes our job easy to do.’

The group of workers who lived in the factory will reportedly get this week off before returning to work normal hours next week.

Braskem America is reportedly rewarding the employees with an increase in wages.

‘We found very quickly that our role in this is keeping that plant running safely and securely,’ CEO Mark Nikolich said.
