Canadian technology company Morgan Solar has sold 13.6 MW of its innovative bifacial solar panels to Enbridge for the Alberta Solar One project in Canada. The panels, which use Morgan Solar’s SimbaX technology, will be manufactured by Silfab Solar under an exclusive license agreement.
SimbaX is Morgan Solar’s proprietary optical film technology that boosts the performance of PV modules to generate higher yields and can be integrated into any standard silicon PV panel assembly. Working with Silfab, Morgan Solar has certified monofacial and bifacial versions of the technology.
“We are excited by this major demonstration of our SimbaX technology. Due to our T-innovation design approach, we were able to leverage Silfab’s capacity and high-quality manufacturing to bring this innovative product to market at a greater pace and scale than is typical for our industry,” said Mike Andrade, CEO of Morgan Solar.

Alberta Solar One, which has been in development since 2016, is expected to be completed by 2021. It will be the first major deployment of Morgan Solar’s concentrated-PV technology. SimbaX concentrates light to “reduce silicon cells in solar panels, reduce cost, boost energy or expand production,” according to Morgan Solar’s website. SimbaX uses the company’s SPOT backsheet to reduce the number of silicon cells in the panels.
