I appreciate The Plain Dealer’s coverage of Senate Bill 307 (“Cost could be rerouted to customers – all customers,” May 31). I think it’s worth taking a moment to note what is extraordinary about this bill: It is a bipartisan effort to promote electric vehicle use and manufacture in the state of Ohio.
Republican state Sens. Michael Rulli, George Lang, Sandra O’Brien, and Bill Reineke, along with Democratic state Sens. Nickie Antonio, Vernon Sykes, and Sandra Williams, are to be commended for joining forces on this piece of legislation. Let’s consider that it is not just the costs of electric vehicles (and other forms of clean-energy production and use) that might be shared, but the benefits. Among these benefits are cleaner air, a healthier population, a thriving economy, and a livable climate for all. These are things we all value, no matter whether we are on the left or the right side of the road.
I encourage readers to contact their state legislators in support of SB 307, and then call Congress to ask for action that facilitates the green-energy transition. These are our government representatives – let’s ask them to drive towards a livable world.
