The Bristol Township School Board will sell the closed Franklin D. Roosevelt Middle School to a window and door company.
The school board on Tuesday evening voted 8-0 to approve a letter of intent to sell the now vacant property to Crystal Window and Door Systems.
The sale price of the school property was not immediately released.
The Roosevelt school, which is located off Veterans Highway, has been closed since last March after the opening of the renovated Benjamin Franklin Middle School on Mill Creek Road.
Board Vice President Kellie Buchanan noted in a statement the board’s commitment to the school district and the Bristol Township community were front of mind during the process to find a new use for the property, which abuts residences.
“Throughout the process, the Board was not only focused on doing what was best for the school district, but also what would be most beneficial for the Bristol Township community.” Board Vice President Kellie Buchanan stated.
Crystal Window and Door Systems plans to transform the property into a light manufacturing and assembly building, according to a statement,
The New York-based company has a history spanning over 30 years. It is among the top 25 window manufacturers in North America.
The company’s move to Bristol Township is expected to create 300 jobs.

The district said Crystal Window and Door Systems has committed to developing a portion of the property into a community park. The planned park will feature multi-use fields, a dog park, playground, gardens, picnic shelter with restrooms, basketball and tennis courts, and a loop walking trail.
The plans for the 31.73-acre site still have to go through the land development process.
“Crystal is an award-winning company and we are happy to welcome them to Bristol Township,” Board President James Morgan said. “We are excited about the creation of jobs for the community as well as utilizing the open space for a park.”
Crystal Window and Door Systems will focus on sustainability and energy efficiency in its operations, according to a statement.
“We truly believe that this is a positive development for both the Board and community, and look forward to welcoming Crystal Windows to Bristol Township,” Morgan remarked.
To facilitate the sale of the school property, the board enlisted the services of commercial real estate broker NAI Mertz.
According to Morgan, NAI Mertz played a crucial role in attracting significant interest in the property, ensuring the board had a range of viable options for its sale.
Several years ago, the district heard interest from a company that wanted to turn the site into a shopping center. However, the district wasn’t ready to sell at that point.
Over the past decade, the Bristol Township School District has closed nine elementary schools and consolidated to three new buildings. Their plan called for improvements and updates, including the closure of the Roosevelt building, at the middle school level. Work on the high school could be an upcoming focus. The district moved their administration and bus depot to the former Clara Barton Elementary School building next to Harry S. Truman High School in 2019.
