FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) - A Florence resident was sentenced to federal prison for conspiracy to manufacture and pass counterfeit money.
Shanteley Latrice Howard, 33, of Florence, was sentenced on Wednesday, according to a press release from Sherri A. Lydon, United States Attorney for the District of South Carolina. A United States District Judge sentenced Howard to 18 months, followed by three years of court-ordered supervision.
"Evidence presented to the court showed that Howard was involved in a conspiracy to manufacture and pass counterfeit $100 and $50 bills in multiple states, including South Carolina and North Carolina," the release says. "This conspiracy, which began in 2015, included at least nine co-conspirators who were responsible for making and passing over $100,000 in counterfeit money. Howard passed counterfeit $100 and $50 bills on multiple occasions at businesses in Florence and other locations in South Carolina."
The case was investigated by the United States Secret Service with assistance from the Florence County Sheriff's Office and the Florence Police Department.
No mugshot for Howard is available.
