The government has committed $4 billion over the next four years to “bring forward” missile manufacture within Australia, says Defence Minister Richard Marles.
“What this will enable us to do is seriously get on with the business of manufacturing missiles in Australia,” he told Sky News Australia.
“We’re more than doubling what has been provided for in terms of local manufacture, whereas what we inherited was the prospect of maybe manufacturing in 2027.
“We really believe that we can bring that forward, such that we would be manufacturing these missiles in the next couple of years.”
