Saab and Adani team up to manufacture defence systems in India

Saab has joined forces with India’s Adani Group to explore possible joint opportunities in the country’s defence and aerospace industry.

The partnership includes establishing joint ventures (JV) in India in line with and in support of the Make In India policy.

Both the companies will also support the development of a robust national supply chain, as well as small and medium-sized enterprises.

The companies will collaborate on other projects, programmes and technologies of national importance to India.

Saab president and CEO Håkan Buskhe said: “We are committed to the India-Sweden relationship and in bringing the latest technology and skills to India.

"Our plans in India are to create a new defence eco-system that would involve many partners, vendors and suppliers."

Through the collaboration, the companies also intend to design, develop and produce Gripen single-engine fighter aircraft for India.

Saab’s Gripen multi-role combat aircraft can perform a complete range of air-to-air and air-to-ground missions, including specialist roles such as intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance (ISTAR), and electronic warfare.

Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani said: “Our various collaborations in aerospace and defence sectors will help establish new production lines in India, generate employment, and build sustainable skills.”
