Letter | State needs to vote to ban manufacture, sale of fur - Santa Cruz Sentinel

The fur industry is history. Citing animal cruelty, top designers such as Calvin Klein, Armani and Versace are swearing off it. Now California is weighing in: The state is considering a ban on the manufacture and sale of fur, joining cities such as Los Angeles and San Francisco.

The cruelty of the fur industry is well-documented. Wild animals such as mink are kept in tiny, dirty cages where they often go insane with suffering, spinning incessantly in their cages. It’s not unusual for workers to find that a mink has chewed off her own tail or killed her babies. Most typically the animals simply give up, barely moving at all.

AB 44, the state fur ban has already passed one Assembly committee and now faces a vote March 26 in the Judiciary Committee. Please urge Assemblyman Mark Stone for vote yes on AB 44, the state fur ban.
