An eight-year-old Galway boy has cycled a marathon to raise money for healthcare workers at University Hospital Galway, while staying inside his 2km permitted radius for exercise.
Dylan Moran from Tuam set himself a target of €250 but he has already raised over €14,000 and the figure continues to climb.
This morning, relatives, friends and neighbours gathered at the Moran family home - together but apart - to cheer Dylan on.
Dylan is a second-class pupil at Sylane National School in Tuam. During the Covid-19 lockdown he told his parents he wanted to do something to help frontline workers.
Declan and Deirdre Moran say they could not be prouder of their son.

The family are keen cyclists and Dylan was joined by his father Declan on the 42km cycle, which they completed in just under three hours. His younger sister, Faye, cycled alongside them at the start of the marathon.
Dylan’s grandparents, Gerry and Monica Fahy, are cocooning nearby but came out to support the initiative whilst socially distancing.
They describe their grandson as a ball of energy with a big heart and generosity of spirit.
The cycle adhered to the 2km radius in line with social-distancing measure as Dylan and his father completed many laps of cycle lanes around Tuam with spins through local estates in the town and on to part of the main Galway road.
